Cashmere

Cashmere yarn

Cashmere yarn is made from the finest hairs from the undercoat of the cashmere goat. Most cashmere goats live in Mongolia, Nepal and China, where the climate is extremely cold, and it can get down to -40 degrees in winter. This forces the cashmere goats to adapt to the climate by developing a double layer of wool. The inner layer is used to make cashmere yarn.

Cashmere quality

The quality of cashmere is determined by fineness, color, softness and length. The most important factors in the quality of cashmere are the length and fineness of the fibers. Products made from long, thin fibers pill less and hold their shape better than products made from short, thick hairs.

In Nepal, cashmere is divided into three grades: Grade A, B and C. Grade A is the best and most expensive grade.
CARE BY ME uses only Grade A quality cashmere.

Plywood

Ply is the term for how many strands the cashmere yarn is twisted from. At CARE BY ME we use a minimum of 2-ply yarn, as 1-ply yarn is simply not strong enough. We use 2-ply yarn for our hand-knitted products, but we put them together three at a time, so the products are actually 6-ply (3x2).

Knitting strength

Knitting tension is a measurement that indicates how tightly a product is knitted. Knitting tension refers to the number of stitches and rows in 10 centimeters. The higher the knitting tension number, the denser or finer the knit.

Colors

Our dyes are certified according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, the world's leading label for health and environmental safety in textiles. The label is your guarantee that the product has been tested for harmful substances and complies with all relevant legislation that protects both you and the environment. A high standard of safety is set throughout the production process, from the raw yarn to the finished product

Undyed colors

The colors Wheat and Dark sand are 100% natural from nature.
They are completely pure, free of dyes and are biodegradable.

Wool

At CARE BY ME we use different types of wool. They are 100% natural, biodegradable, 100% renewable, naturally breathable, soft against the skin and easy to maintain.

Cashmere/silk

A delicate and very soft blend made of 75% cashmere and 25% silk.
The yarn is lightly brushed, resulting in a unique and very soft finish.
We call it summer cashmere because of its light and exclusive touch.

Cashmere/wool

A soft, warm and natural blend made of 90% wool and 10% cashmere - "Wool with a kiss of cashmere" we call it. An exclusive mix of materials that is durable, wonderfully soft and non-itchy. Perfect for loungewear, chunky knits and interiors.

Linen/cotton

Like our GOTS-certified organic cotton, linen is a natural material.

The combination of the two materials - cotton and linen - gives the garment a lovely softness when worn close to the skin. Cotton and linen are some of the most durable textiles available, making the series perfect for everyday use. Last but not least, linen is wonderfully breathable and known for absorbing moisture, which is why it keeps the skin cool on hot summer days.

This unique material mix is produced using solar energy and therefore supports our journey towards a more responsible lifestyle.

Recycled cashmere and wool

As a new material, we introduced recycled cashmere and wool to the collection in 2022. The production of the recycled materials takes place in Italy, and we are very happy about that.
Italy is known for fantastic craftsmanship and their ability to recycle materials is truly unique.

The materials have been carefully collected, transformed into small fibers, spun into the finest yarn and woven into a beautiful product, ready to embrace a new owner.

Many manufacturers use polyester material when recycling wool and cashmere. We don't - our products are 100% natural and comply with international recycling standards.

Organic cotton

At CARE BY ME we are dedicated to using 100% organic and certified cotton. Our goal is to support the cultivation of cotton without the use of harmful chemicals, synthetic fertilizers or other additives that can harm the environment and the people involved. The majority of the cotton we use is GOTS certified, ensuring full transparency in our entire process and fair wages for all parties involved.

We are proud to be GOTS certified, and the certification means that we have full transparency in our supply chain from seed to finished product and also comply with strict requirements regarding chemistry, environment and social responsibility.

Why choose GOTS-certified organic cotton?

Environmental responsibility
By choosing GOTS certified organic cotton, you support a growing method that avoids harmful chemicals, synthetic fertilizers and additives. This helps protect the soil, conserve water resources and secure ecosystems.

Health and well-being
Conventional cotton farming involves the use of pesticides and insecticides that can harm farmers and their communities. With GOTS certified organic cotton, you can be sure that the cotton is grown without the use of these chemicals, and that the health and well-being of everyone involved is prioritized, reducing health problems, deaths and production costs. The same often applies to farmers' debt - the burden of pesticide debt has led to thousands of suicides in India, the world's largest cotton producer.

Ethical production
GOTS certification ensures fair wages and safe working conditions for everyone in the supply chain, from farmers to factory workers. When you choose our GOTS certified cotton products, you support a more responsible industry that values human rights.

Transparency and trust
With GOTS certification, you can trust the integrity of our products. We value transparency, so you know you are making an ethical and more responsible choice. Every step, from seed to finished product, is documented and traceable.
