Our history

CARE BY ME was founded in 2012 by Danish designer Camilla Gullits. The goal was to create a collection of socially responsible clothing and interior design that would also help women in developing countries.

After graduating from the Danish School of Design, Camilla started her own consultancy. After a few years, however, she decided to return to her design roots and founded CARE BY ME with the vision of a brand that would make a difference for other people.

CARE BY ME's socially responsible initiatives made the company eligible to receive support from the Danish government's support program Danida. The program has strict criteria and helps companies operating in developing countries with a focus on women and gender equality. Today, Camilla is the creative director of CARE BY ME.

In 2017, Pernille Pold joined CARE BY ME as partner and commercial director. Pernille has extensive international experience from EVA Solo A/S, which has equipped her to successfully establish CARE BY ME in the European market and recently launch the brand in Asia, the Pacific region and the Americas.

CARE BY ME's mission is to produce unique and more sustainable products by combining skilled craftsmanship from developing countries with Nordic design and high-quality natural materials. Our goal is to create durable and timeless products that our customers will use and love for many years.

The UN Global Compact principles are our guiding light.

In Nepal, handmade textiles are a major part of the national economy. The materials come from cashmere goats and sheep, and the yarn is knitted or woven in the area around Kathmandu. Here, CARE BY ME has formed partnerships with small workshops, where we train local women in our designs using their ancient crafts.

The scarcity of electricity in Kathmandu means that CARE BY ME products are either made on manual hand knitting machines or knitted by hand on needles. The woven products are either made on a hand loom or a semi-automatic loom. Only electricity is used to put the parts together, and all our products from Nepal are certified handmade. In Nepal, we focus mainly on social and economic sustainability in production.

All our organic cotton is GOTS certified and produced in India by our GOTS and Fairtrade certified partner. In India, through our GOTS certification, we focus on both people and the environment, which are very close to our hearts.

CARE BY ME is owned and operated by women who design exclusive products for people in our part of the world, while helping women in both Nepal and India to have a better life. Our focus on helping and educating women helps to secure their future, as they are able to provide food for their families, ensure their children's education and create a safer and thus more harmonious life.
