What does your morning routine look like?

My mornings are very different, as my workday starts anywhere between 7:30 AM and 11:00 AM.
What remains constant is that my husband always serves me a cup of coffee and a ginger shot first - a small but meaningful declaration of love that I deeply appreciate.

On mornings when time allows, I love to meditate, using guided audio meditations lasting anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. Meditation is deeply nourishing and supports a special kind of presence with oneself - an attentiveness to the important messages that arise from within, but which we so often miss once the pace of the day takes over.

How do you best spend an hour in your own company?

I’m a member of a gym with a spa area as well as a sauna and winter swimming club, and I never regret the hours I spend alternating between cold and heat - whether at the spa or by the sea. It’s the best kind of hug for my nervous system and always leaves me with a deep sense of calm and self-care.

What is your best advice for showing self-love and prioritizing yourself in a busy everyday life?

To practice single-tasking. When I suffered a concussion a few years ago, I was forced to simplify my entire way of being in the world. One thing that became very clear to me was how strongly our society tends to encourage doing many things at once.

Meditation and time spent at the spa or bathing club are wonderful practices, but they aren’t things I can do every day. What I can practice daily, however, is focusing on one thing at a time - being fully present in what I’m doing and moving at a pace that feels right for me.

Have you made a decision in your life that has been particularly good for you?

Continuing my education as a psychotherapist has not only opened up new career paths, but also deepened my understanding of myself. It has been truly life-changing and is something I will carry with me always.

Buying a summer house on Fejø has also been invaluable. The small ferry ride toward the island is infused with a sense of peace, enjoyment, and presence. Some of my most cherished family memories come from our long summers there, where days begin slowly and often end with watching the sunset from the jetty - alone or in the company of island friends.

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice on how to create a balanced life, what would it be?

If you have 40 percent and give 40 percent, then you have given 100 percent.

In my work, I see so many young people striving for “perfection” - trying to be at full capacity across every area of life, all the time.

I make a point of reminding my students, clients, my own children, and my inner child that we are not meant to be perfect at everything. How important it is to listen to the day’s energy level, to be true to it, and to know that you are loved for who you are - not for what you accomplish.

Your best tip for a strong and healthy body and a balanced mind?

I love the old Native American saying, “Listen to your body when it whispers, so you don’t have to hear it scream.” I’m constantly trying to get better at that - listening to the signals that come from within, not ignoring them, and taking them seriously.

Some days, what you truly need is to wrap yourself in a blanket on the couch with a hot cup of tea, rather than jumping on your bike for a workout. Many of us have a well-established inner “whip” that keeps us going in the many arenas where we feel we need to perform. Challenging that inner voice - and allowing ourselves to rest, take breaks, and step back without feeling lazy or inadequate - is something I work with many of my clients on, and something I’ve also focused on deeply in my own life in recent years.

Healthy food and sleep are my foundation. I try to get eight hours of sleep every night and lean toward anti-inflammatory dietary principles.

“I make a point of telling my students, clients, my own children, and my inner child that we are not meant to be perfect at everything. That it’s important to listen to the energy level of the day, to be true to it, and to know that you are loved for who you are - not for what you accomplish.”

Has the desire to work with people and their stories always been within you, or is it something that has grown over time?

It has always been part of me.
I have always been drawn to moments where we dare to be vulnerable and honest - where we can talk about what is difficult without fear of being judged or assessed. For me, these kinds of encounters are among the most beautiful and meaningful experiences in life.

They have long been a benchmark for my friendships and, as a natural extension of that, have shaped my desire to work with the well-being of children and, later, adults.

Do you have an easy beauty tip that we can share?

Sleep and sauna :)
And facial massage. I massage my face at least once a day - with gua sha, a jade roller, or simply my hands - using a wonderful facial oil from Jurlique (Jurlique Recovery Oil), which I’m completely addicted to. This small ritual helps reduce puffiness and leaves my skin with a healthy, natural glow.

If you could freely choose an activity that would give you lots of energy, what would it be?

A trip to the sea. I was born under the sign of Pisces - and although I’m not particularly into astrology, it resonates deeply with the connection I feel to the ocean.
Whether it’s an icy cold dip with the winter swimming club in Nordhavn or a sun-warmed swim on Fejø in summer, it always feels like a brief, almost intoxicating moment - a heightened sense of alertness, sensuality, and connection to the world around me.
