Yarn: CARE BY ME recycled cashmere & wool
Yarn requirement: approx. 36 g
Needles: Circular needle size 6 (40 cm) – or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge
Gauge: 17 stitches = 10 cm
Circumference: approx. 53 cm
Elastic: 1 hair elastic or 20 cm of 5 mm elastic
Cast on 90 stitches to indicate the beginning of the round.
Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
Join to work in the round and knit stockinette until the piece measures 10 cm in height.
Tip: If your stitches don’t reach around the needle, use the magic loop method. You’ll find plenty of tutorials online.
The scrunchie is joined while binding off.
Pick up 1 stitch in each cast-on stitch – it’s easiest to use a slightly smaller needle.
Turn the work so that the wrong side is facing out.
Place the hair elastic in the center of the piece.
Fold the knitted fabric up around the elastic so the right side is facing out.
Knit 1 stitch from each needle together.
Knit another stitch from each needle together.
Pass the first stitch over the second stitch – 1 stitch has now been bound off.
Continue knitting stitches together while binding off all the way around.
Weave in the ends.
Use the remaining yarn to make a smaller scrunchie.
